Selassie A. Newton Dies at 89

Selassie A. Newton, aka “Newton or Selassie” of New Street, passed away on October 2. He was 89.

He is survived by his daughter, Raynell Newton Smith; adopted daughters, Brenda Lee Francis and Glenda Mathurin Lee;  sons, Michael Newton, Milton Newton; grandsons, Rahsaan Smith and Miles Kenneth Newton; granddaughters, Vanessa Smith, Ronelle Smith, Dominique Banks, Shanay A. Newton, Johnea Baker; great granddaughters, D’Neisjah Clouden, Ryann Smith, Reagan Smith, Kaydin Smith, Kassidy Banks, Kaidynce Banks, Kalise Hewlett; great grandson, Talique Stephens, Kaeshon Freeman; adopted sisters, Carmen Bastian and Marie T. Bass; nieces, Mona L. Pickering-McGriff, Moureen L. Pickering, Marva L. Pickering-Jones, Helen Sackey Phillips, Yvonne L. “Tiny” Payne, Carolyn Newton, Cydonie Francis and Cheron Francis; nephews, Marvin L. Pickering, Melvin L. Funeral service will be held on Oct. 30 at Frederiksted Seventh Day Adventist Church. The tributes start at 9:30 a.m., and the service will begin at 10 a.m. Interment follows at Frederiksted Cemetery.
