Kenneth L. Springer, 50, of Catherine’s Rest, St. Croix, was sentenced Friday in V.I. Superior Court to five years of probation after pleading guilty to three counts of obtaining money by false pretense, the Virgin Islands Justice Department announced in a press release.
Springer, who fled the territory after charges were first filed in 2010, was apprehended in Texas earlier this year and extradited to St. Croix in August. He remained in custody until entering his plea and receiving judgment from Judge Ernest E. Morris Jr., according to the press release.
According to court documents, Springer posed as a contractor between March and July 2007, defrauding two women of $4,150 and $3,330. He also filed a forged deed to transfer ownership of property at Plot 107C Solitude, to himself.
As part of his sentence, Springer must return the property deed to the rightful owner and provide proof that no encumbrances, liens, or mortgages remain on the property. He is also required to fully repay the two victims and complete 100 hours of community service before being allowed to return to Texas.
