St. Croix’s running community turned out strong on Monday morning for the annual Labor Day 5K, hosted by the St. Croix Road Runners and supported by the Virgin Islands Track & Field Federation. Fifty participants laced up at sunrise for the point-to-point race, which began in Southgate and finished in Christiansted.
The early morning heat was softened by cool breezes and a vibrant rainbow arching over the harbor at the finish line, offering runners a memorable view after tackling the scenic course. For many, the event was especially meaningful—it marked their very first 5K run or walk.
The men’s overall title went to 33-year-old Matias Porporato, who claimed first place ahead of Ayden Cintron and Nathan Langley. On the women’s side, Bridget Klein topped the podium, followed by Kennedy James in second and Robin Seila in third.

- Male Overall: 1st – Matias Porporato, 2nd – Ayden Cintron, 3rd – Nathan Langley
- Female Overall: 1st – Bridget Klein, 2nd – Kennedy James, 3rd – Robin Seila
- Male U18: 1st – Vedant Mittal, 2nd – Nick Crikelair, 3rd – Khaiem Hansen
- Female U18: 1st – Olivia Crikelair, 2nd – Olivia Jones, 3rd – Asia Williams
- Male Masters: 1st – Jeremy Janusziewicz, 2nd – Randy Nielsen, 3rd – Mark Mason
- Female Masters: 1st – Olga Capriola, 2nd – Debbie Hennings, 3rd – Marva Neely
With community support growing and new faces joining the sport, the St. Croix Road Runners are already looking ahead to their next event: the Veterans Day 10K on Saturday, November 8 at 6 a.m. The two-lap course will start and finish in Christiansted, featuring a flat, scenic route through Gallows Bay, Altona Lagoon, and town—a perfect challenge for both seasoned competitors and first-time racers.
