Daniele Ducrot, Restaurant Owner, Dies

We are heartbroken to announce the passing of Daniele Navarro Ducrot on January 7th, 2025, at the age of 83, due to complications after a fall. She was born in Toulon, France.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Andre, in 2008. She is survived by her son, Olivier, a sister, Martine Tobschall, and a brother, Patrick Navarro. Survivors also include nephew Erick and niece Natalie Tobschall.

Daniele and Andre met and fell in love as teenagers, married, and in 1966, Olivier was born.

That same year, they relocated from the south of France to Canada. Shortly after, they moved to Vermont, where they operated the successful restaurant Cafe Shelburne for two decades.

In 1988, the trio moved to St Croix. Neither fire nor hurricane defeated them and their third attempt resulted in the critically acclaimed Le St. Tropez. For two decades, their French Mediterranean restaurant in Frederiksted was sought out by locals and visitors alike. The courtyard on King Street attracted people looking for delicious food and a welcoming atmosphere.

Daniele was a natural in the front of the house and she hosted with style. She was energetic, gracious, tough and tenacious. She wore many hats, and to describe her as memorable would be inadequate. She has been and will be missed.

Danieleโ€™s ashes will be laid to rest in the same area of the Caribbean Sea where Andre was buried.
