The Department of Public Works informs the community of progress on the remaining bridges as part of the St. Croix bridge projects.
Both the Altona Lagoon and Queen Mary Highway Bridges are completed and open to the public.
The sewer line repairs on East Airport Road Bridge are nearing completion and should conclude this week. At that point, VI Paving will return to work on the pavement structure in January, which will conclude with an opening to traffic around 10 days after the work begins.
Midland Road Bridge has finally received the necessary VIYA relocations of utility lines that were needed for VI Paving to move forward with demolition. The demo has been completed to the point that pile driving operations are ready to begin and is currently scheduled for the week after VI Paving returns from holiday break.
The Rt. 669 bridge is currently underway with construction of the abutments. While the contractor — Custom Builders — is awaiting the concrete testing results from the concrete pours of the abutments, they will begin work on the embankment material placement. Acrow Bridge representatives are scheduled to be onsite to begin the bridge erection the 2nd week of January 2025.
The major bridge projects are being managed by Eastern Federal Lands, a division of the Federal Highway Administration within the U.S. Department of Transportation, with DPW acting as a liaison between FHWA, local contractors, and the community.
