Bishop Damas S. Eloi Dies at 78

It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of Bishop Damas S. Eloi, who departed this life on Nov. 28, at the age of 78

Born on the island of Dominica, West Indies, Bishop Eloi migrated to St. Thomas in the early 1970s, making the U.S. Virgin Islands his beloved home, which he regarded with deep affection and pride.

Bishop Eloi, alongside his loving wife, Rosie, co-founded Living Word Family Ministries, which they faithfully led together for 23 years. He pastored for a total of 35 years and was known for his authentic love for the Lord, his community, and all people.

In addition to his ministry, Bishop Eloi was the founder and owner of Caribbean Driving School, where he served as a driving instructor for 46 years, impacting countless lives with his patience, dedication, and expertise.

His community work was extensive and included serving as Chaplain of Massac Nursing School, Miracle Babies, and LaPaz Hospice Care, Inc., where his compassionate spirit brought comfort and hope to many.

He will be remembered for his friendly, kind, and generous spirit. Bishop Eloi was well known as an approachable man with a unique ability to make everyone feel special. His legacy of love and service will forever be cherished by all who knew him.

He is survived by his loving wife, Rosie; his daughter, Tracy, and her husband, Kirk Callwood Sr.; his cherished grandsons, Kirk Jr. (and his spouse, Brianna) and Kevin; his great-grandson, Khalil; and two sisters, Paulina and Lucy Eloi.

His death was preceded by his parents, Iris and Bernice Eloi; his sisters, Christine Eloi, Elizabeth Eloi, and Eunice Parrilon; and his brothers, Fred, Lennox, and Eric Eloi.

A public viewing will be held on Tuesday, Dec. 24, from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m. at Turnbullโ€™s Funeral Home. The Homegoing Service will take place on Friday, Dec. 27, at Kingdom Life International Christian Center, with a viewing at 9 a.m., followed by the service at 10 a.m.
