Police were investigating Monday the death of a St. Croix woman found dead in a chair in her home.

A neighbor started checking in on Jendiya Mendez, 43, in early September when she noticed large scabs on Mendezโ€™s face. Mendez had said sheโ€™d fallen.

When Mendez, also known as Flaca, didnโ€™t answer the door on Thursday and again on Friday, the neighbor asked for assistance from the office at the Harbor View Apartments. A maintenance worker found Mendezโ€™s body in a chair. Police said she was โ€œbruised-up, disheveledโ€ and nude.

Police were awaiting an autopsy report to determine the cause of death.
