Two More Accomplices in Castle Coakley Robbery, Assault in Custody

On Aug. 23 arrest warrants were signed for Kaywana Meade and Jose Berrios and his co-conspirators, according to the V.I. Police Department.

Members of the Criminal Investigation Bureau apprehended 22-year-old Meade Friday. She was detained and transported to the Wilbur H. Francis Command Police Station where she was advised of her Miranda Rights. Meade declined to give a statement and was placed under arrest for robbery in the first degree. She was booked and unable to post her bail of $75,000, therefore, she was remanded to the John Bell Correctional Facility pending her advice of rights hearing set for Monday.

According to the police report, on Feb. 22, the 911 Emergency Call Center received a report of a robbery that occurred in the Castle Coakley area. Responding officers made contact with the victim. The investigator assigned to this matter met with the victim who disclosed that he was present at an establishment and met Meade and other co-conspirators, who orchestrated a plan to rob him after he withdrew money from the ATM. Meade was with him in his vehicle and she had him stop in the vicinity of Strictly the Best Clothing Store where he was robbed and assaulted at gunpoint by her co-conspirators.

At about 5:46 a.m. Friday, Jose Berrios, age 36, turned himself in at the Wilbur H. Francis Command Police Station. Berrios was advised of his Miranda Rights and declined to give a statement. He was placed under arrest, booked, and unable to post $75,000 bail. Berrios was charged with assault in the first degree, assault in the third degree, and unlawful possession of a firearm. He was then transported to the John Bell Correctional Facility where he was detained pending his advice of rights hearing on Monday.

On Aug. 28, 2023, at about 10:18 p.m., the 911 Emergency Call Center received a report of an assault that occurred in the vicinity of Carlos Bar. Responding officers made contact with the victim. An investigator met with the victim who disclosed that he was socializing at an establishment and met Berrios and other co-conspirators, who robbed him after he withdrew money from the ATM. He was robbed and assaulted at gunpoint by Berrios and other co-conspirators when he stopped in the vicinity of Strictly the Best Clothing Store, the police report stated.
