A St. Croix woman surrendered to the authorities Tuesday for harassing an individual over the phone and sending threatening messages, the V.I. Police Department reported.
On Feb. 6, the Economic Crimes Unit initiated an investigation into a harassment by telephone complaint. The investigation revealed that Sh’lante Maxwell used her personal telephone to harass the complainant multiple times and sent threatening messages, according to the police report.
As a result of this investigation, an arrest warrant was issued for Maxwell, which was also entered into the National Crime Information Center database, the police report stated.
On Tuesday, Maxwell, 26, turned herself in at the Wilbur H. Francis Command Police Station, where she was served a copy of the arrest warrant, advised of her rights, and placed under arrest without incident. Subsequently, Maxwell was booked and charged with harassment by telephone, telegraph, or written communication and cyber-stalking and cyber-harassment, the report stated.
Based on the incident, bail was set at $1,000 for the alleged incident. Unable to post bail, Maxwell was remanded to the John A. Bell Adult Correction Facility pending her advice of rights hearing, police said.
