Tulip Doretta Bridgewater Dies

Tulip Doretta Bridgewater, 75, passed away on Wednesday, Aug. 7, at Charlotte Hungerford Hospital, Torrington, Conn.

Tulip was born in Basseterre, St. Kitts, West Indies, on June 11, 1949, daughter of the late Edward Lanns and Exeline (Matthew) Gumbs, and had been a Torrington resident for the past 20 years. She was a member of Workman Memorial A.M.E Zion Church, Torrington, and St. Annโ€™s Roman Catholic Church, St. Croix, USVI.

Tulip enjoyed dancing and she lived to help others and serve the public. Tulip will be remembered for her extremely charitable and giving nature.

Survivors include a daughter, Thursa Hinson; her husband, Kenneth Hinson, of Torrington; sons: Tristian Jones of St. Croix, U.S. Virgin Islands and Tyreece Jones of Arizona and his wife Kamilah Weaver; and foster children: Fay Wharton and Rosie Wharton,

She is also survived by brothers: Fitzroy Matthew and his wife, Eulene Matthew, Charles Lanns and his wife, Philomena Lanns, Ricardo Lanns, Collin Williams and Leon Williams; sister, Bernadine Matthew; 11 grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; cousins: Brunelda and Lisa McMahon and Monica Walters; and many nieces and nephews.

The viewing will be held at 9 a.m. followed by the funeral service at 10 a.m., Friday, Aug.30, at St. Annโ€™s Catholic Church. Interment will be at Kingshill Cemetery.
