Garcia Sets V.I. Record in Houston Half Marathon; Klein Is Overall Winner of St. Croix Scenic 50K

Congratulations to VI National Team member Eduardo Garcia who competed in the Houston Half Marathon on Jan. 14. Garcia completed this 13.1 Miles World Athletic Gold Medal race in a new Virgin Islands National record of 1 hour 3 minutes and 59 seconds, placing 26th overall in a field of 13,873 runners. Garcia bettered his own V.I. National record by 33 seconds and placed 1st in his age group.

Garcia is working on qualifying for the full Marathon in the Olympic Games, which will be in Paris, France, this year. His next race will be the Marathon in Enschede, The Netherlands, on April 21.

Congratulations to VI National Team member Bridget Klein who was the overall winner of the St. Croix Scenic 50K race on Jan. 14, on St. Croix. Klein finished the 50K race in 4 hours 47 minutes and 29 seconds.

Caleb Halvorson-Fried from Maine was the first male finisher in 5 hours 2 minutes and 50 seconds. Billy Bohlke from the Virgin Islands finished 2nd in the male category in 5:05:47 and Christopher Halliday from Pennsylvania finished 3rd in 5:18:15.

2nd place in the female category went to Virgin Islands’ Megan Mault in a time of 5:33:01; 3rd place was Kathleen Brownsdon from the Virgin Islands in 6:05:07.
