Entrepreneur Vivek Ramaswamy has filed and qualified for the ballot in the 2024 Virgin Islands caucus, the territory’s Republican Party announced Tuesday, Sept. 19.
The news was first reported on X, the platform formerly known as Twitter.
Ramaswamy is the third candidate to file and qualify for the ballot in the U.S. territory. While denied a vote for president in the general election, the Virgin Islands fully and equally participates in the Republican presidential nomination campaign.
“We look forward to welcoming Vivek Ramaswamy to our island communities,” said Gordon Ackley, Republican Party in the Virgin Islands chairman. “The Virgin Islands face unique issues that will be elevated onto the national stage as Mr. Ramaswamy and others campaign for the votes of Virgin Islanders.”
The 2024 Virgin Islands caucus will be held no earlier than Nevada’s primary or caucus and no later than March 2. Conducted using ranked-choice voting, all registered V.I. voters are eligible to vote.
Nine delegates will represent the U.S. territory at the 2024 Republican National Convention in Milwaukee.
Ramaswamy joins Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis and former President Donald J. Trump as ballot-qualified candidates.
