Smith Crowned New Balance National Champion 400m Hurdles; Olympic Day Run-Walk

Virgin Islands Track and Field Team (VITFF) member Michelle Smith competed in the New Balance Outdoor Nationals from June 15-18 in Pennsylvania. Smith is the New Balance National Champion in the 400m Hurdles. She won the race with a time of 58.28. She is currently ranked as the fastest high schooler in the USA for the 400m Hurdles with her 56.66 time she ran at the Corky/Crowfoot Shootout

Michelle also helped her team to a 2nd place in the 4 * 400m Relay with a new School Record time for 3:42.09.

Michelle will compete next for the Virgin Islands in the Central American and Caribbean (CAC) Games, which are held in El Salvador. The track and Field portion of the games will go from July 1 – 9.

Virgin Islands National Team member Sofia Swindell competed in the New Balance Outdoor Nationals from June 15-18 in Pennsylvania.

Swindell finished 4th in the 100m Hurdles Rising Stars Girls final with a time of 14.30; she placed 8th in the triple jump with a jump of 37 feet and 5.25 inches – (11.41 meters).

She will compete next for the Virgin Islands in the NACAC U18/U23 Championships in Costa Rica from July 21-23.

Virgin Islands Track and Field Team member Malique Smith competed at the American Track League ATL Open, on June 17, 2023. Malique competed in the 400m Hurdles and finished 7th in a time of 52.12.

Malique will compete next on June 21 and 24 in Canada in the Royal City Inferno Track and Field Classic and Johnny Loaring Classic.
