St. Thomas Man Arrested for Fraudulent Rental Agreement

A St. Thomas man was arrested for drafting a fraudulent rental agreement, the V.I. Police Department reported Friday.

An investigation revealed that Lloyd S. Bergan, 65, drafted a fraudulent rental agreement for an apartment at Dronnigens Gade on St. Thomas, where he did not reside, own, or have permission to rent/lease the apartment. Bergan also received money for a security deposit and the first month’s rent, according to the police report.

On Thursday, VIPD executed an arrest warrant on Bergan and he was charged with obtaining money by false pretense and grand larceny. He was unable to post the $75,000 bail at the time of the arrest and was turned over to the Bureau of Corrections pending his advice of rights hearing, police said.
