Castor beans is a poisonous plant. Castor bean contains the toxic material ricin, which is a true protein. As few as 6 seeds have killed horses, and as few as 2 have caused the death of children. The plant has medicinal application such as the leaves are placed on the body to treat fevers. A leaf is heated and placed on the cheek to alleviate pain of toothaches.
