Operation Clean Sweep Yields More Arrests for Gun Possession

Three more arrests were made on St. Thomas surrounding illegal gun possession, the V.I. Police Department reported Monday.

Hospital Ground

Jah’Quan Nesbitt, 20, was arrested and charged with possession of illegal
ammunition and possession of illegal ammunition in a government housing community after officers responded to shots fired in Hospital Ground Friday, according to the police report.

During the inspection, officers made contact with Nesbitt, who was found in possession of two loaded .40 caliber magazines loaded with live rounds in each, the report stated.

Nesbitt’s bail was set at $50,005. Unable to post bail, he was turned over to the Bureau of Corrections pending his advice of rights hearing, police said.

Rhymer Highway

During a traffic enforcement on Rhymer Highway, officers observed a red SUV with a tinted front license plate cover and an expired registration sticker traveling in their direction. A traffic stop was initiated, and officers conducted a search of the vehicle, and Maaziah Akimo Powell was found to be in possession of a Glock 17 handgun, according to the police report.

Powell, 25, was placed under arrest for possession of an unlicensed firearm, possession of ammunition and possession of an unlicensed firearm within a thousand feet from a school, the police report stated.

His bail was set at $75,005. He was turned over to the Bureau of Corrections pending his advice of rights hearing, police said.

Alton Adams Drive

During a traffic enforcement on Alton Adams Drive, officers observed a gray Honda Civic with what appeared to be excessive tint on the driver and passenger side windows. Officers initiated a traffic stop where a search was conducted of the vehicle and officers found Shervon Bobb-Duberry to be in possession of a Springfield XDS 3.3 Model .45 caliber handgun, according to the police report.

Bobb-Duberry, 37, was placed under arrest for possession of an unlicensed firearm, possession of ammunition and possession of a firearm within a thousand feet of a church/school, the police report stated.

His bail was set at $50,005. Unable to post bail, Bobb-Duberry was turned over to the Bureau of Corrections pending his advice of rights hearing, police said.
