A man is under arrest in connection with a fire on Friday at a home in Estate Humbug on St. Croix, the V.I. Police Department reported.
Chavez Ali, 28, was arrested and charged Saturday with arson, burglary, grand larceny, and destruction of property after a fire was set at Estate Humbug, according to the police report.
The victim stated that after refusing to provide Ali with a ride from the grandfather’s property, he refused to leave. Upon arriving at the property the victim claims that Ali began acting strangely, therefore, causing the victim to phone the authorities and leave the premises, and meet law enforcement, and then returned to the property which was engulfed in flames, the report stated.
Bail was set at $75,000 and Ali’s advice of rights hearing is scheduled for Monday, police said.
