Man Shot In Hand While Making A Pit Stop

A man peeing at the side of the road early Wednesday on St. Thomas was lucky to be alive after being shot by someone in a passing car, the V.I. Police Department reported.

Shortly after 2:30 a.m., police interviewed the man at Schneider Regional Medical Center, where he was treated for injuries to his right thumb and middle finger, according to the report. He said he’d stopped on his way home to urinate in the Frenchman’s Bay area when a black SUV drove by, it said.

Someone fired several shots from the rear driver’s side window as the vehicle passed without stopping, the report stated. The peeing man threw his hands up and later realized he was shot, police said.

Police have called the incident a third-degree assault. The investigation continues.
