Liberty VI has joined Cancer Support VI to “Give Cancer the Boot” this month. In addition to a $2,500 donation from Liberty Foundation, Liberty employees are dressing in pink and encouraging customers to drop their donations into pink boots placed at stores on St. Thomas and St. Croix.
The donations will help Cancer Support VI (CSVI) to assist people affected by cancer in the territory.
“Supporting a cause like this is important for us because it is aligned with our pillars. The work that Cancer Support VI offers to people affected by the disease is essential, especially during these challenging times,” said Bala Balakrishnan, Liberty VI’s general manager. “Many of our employees and customers have been impacted directly or indirectly by this illness, and through efforts like this, we can help make a difference.”
Donations can be dropped at Liberty VI stores at Sunny Isle Shopping Center on St. Croix or Crown Bay Marina on St. Thomas until Monday, Oct. 31.
The donation and volunteer efforts help Cancer Support VI’s Pink October initiative, which runs all month long and provides financial resources for breast cancer patients in the USVI. The organization has been a sponsor fund of the Community Foundation of the Virgin Islands since 2005. It works with patients, medical institutions and community organizations to support cancer patients.
The services that Cancer Support VI offers include outreach, education, fundraising, advocacy, financial assistance and other resources to support patients on their cancer journeys.
“As cases go up and funds go down, partnerships like the one we have now with Liberty VI and Liberty Foundation become even more significant,” said Barb Michaud, CSVI director. “We are incredibly grateful for Liberty Foundation’s support and hope we can continue helping cancer patients in the territory because 100% of all the donations that we receive go to them.”
Since its arrival in the U.S. Virgin Islands in 2020, Liberty has invested more than $215,000 in programs and services provided by nonprofit organizations that make a difference in the lives of thousands in the territory.
