DLCA Encourages People to Do Business With Licensed Establishments and Persons

Virgin Islands Department of Licensing and Consumer Affairs

The V.I. Department of Licensing and Consumer Affairs’ Virgin Islands Board of Contractors, Trades and Crafts (VIBCTC) encourages persons to hire establishments or persons who are licensed with the department before engaging for services.

The Board of Contractors, Trades and Crafts cannot assist you if you hire an unlicensed establishment or person to perform work. If you report a complaint to the Department of Licensing and Consumer Affairs (DLCA) about the services provided to you by an unlicensed business and/or person, the department shall process an unlicensed business claim against the unlicensed business but refer you to a court of competent jurisdiction to file your complaint.

If you report a complaint about services rendered by a licensed establishment and/or person, DLCA shall investigate the matter to determine whether or not it has jurisdiction to address the claim. If DLCA has jurisdiction, it shall investigate the claim and then forward it to the VIBTC to determine if it has merit. If merit exists, DlCA shall issue a complaint and schedule a hearing.

To inquire if an establishment or person is licensed to conduct business in the territory, consumers may visit DLCA’s website at www.dlca.vi.gov. Under license search, insert the business name or business activity you are reviewing; otherwise, contact DLCA at 713-3522 or 714-3522.
