Kandis Gumbs, G-Clef Music Academy’s scheduling manager, attended a November 2020 conference of music school office managers from around the world. Music Academy Success® held the training conference online that year, due to COVID-19. Several managers competed in a contest to showcase how they plan on using the training from Music Academy Success®.
Each manager had to list at least 500 items that could be used to improve their music school. The attendees voted on the finalists who made a presentation at the conference. Gumbs, who represented G-Clef Music Academy in the U.S. Virgin Islands, won the 2020 Music Academy Success® RainCatcher of the Year Award. She won a free trip for two to Walt Disney World in Florida. The challenges of traveling during the height of the COVID-19 pandemic delayed Kandis’ trip to Disney World for two years.
Recently, she was able to fully enjoy her prize which included airfare, hotel, passes to two Disney parks, and a Disney Gift Card. Kandis’ love for music led her to spend time reading Disney songs with Disney’s All-Star Music Resort lobby staff. The resort’s lobby service desks display large sheet music of excerpts of classic Disney tunes. Kandis was able to read the sheet music and share the names of the songs with one of the resort managers so guests who inquired about the songs can learn their names.
The 2020 RainCatcher of the Year Award was presented by the Music Academy Success® company, the world’s largest trade organization for music school owners. With members on six continents, the company helps music school owners to grow in every facet of their business. Part of their training offerings is annual office staff events.
Recipients are trained on customer service and best practices for office-based systems. G-Clef Music Academy, which has been a member of the national music school organization for over eight years, is located on St. Thomas and St. Croix. Music Academy Success® said, “Kandis is shining a bright light on her school in the U.S. Virgin Islands.”
