Magens Bay Authority, governing organization of Magens Bay Beach and Smith Bay Park, has announced new board member Jason P. Charles. He was selected by a majority vote to serve on the Magens Bay Authority Board effective Tuesday, Nov. 9.

Charles, a proud Virgin Islander, said that “Magens Bay has always been a place that has brought the community together.”

Charles has consistently lived a life of service to his community. “I am a past member of the All Saints Cathedral School Board, former founding member and founding president of the Rotaract Club of St. Thomas, and I currently serve as a board member of Junior Achievement of the Virgin Islands.”

He believes in “preserving the historical and cultural way of life of the Virgin Islands.” This is evidenced through his membership and involvement with the Historical Trust Society as well as his personal efforts at restoring historic buildings in downtown Charlotte Amalie. The new board member further recognizes “the importance of maintaining, protecting and expanding the natural beauty of Magens Bay and the surrounding property.”

Charles wrote in his letter of interest to the board, “I hope to have the opportunity to serve as a fellow guardian because I would also serve to protect this treasure that belongs to the people of the Virgin Islands.”

Barbara A. Petersen, chairman of the MBA Board, said, “We are pleased to welcome Mr. Jason Charles to the board. Mr. Charles is committed to the growth and continued long-term financial stability of the Magens Bay Authority.  I have known Jason for many years and his dedication to the youth of this territory and the preservation of natural resources at our parks makes him a great fit for the role. We are especially thrilled to have another qualified Virgin Islander join our ranks in fulfilling the mission of the board.”
