‘Social Isolation’ Poem by Sandra C. Bradley

The Source Arts & Literature section highlights the work of our creative readers. All visual artists and creative writers are encouraged to share with us new works. Please see below for full submission guidelines.

Social Isolation

I am completely infected with you,

Symptoms about my body through and through.

Gasping for air when I look in your eyes,

Lungs needing the oxygen of your smile.

I want to wash my hands all over you,

Slather you in my sanitizer too.

Four feet not apart, but entwined as one,

Moving to a dance while creating a song.

I need to be alone with you,

My unwashed thoughts are coming through.

Supernatural remedy you are to me,

The dosage injected precisely.

Doctor’s orders we must follow,

Plenty of bedrest and take it slow.

Your ventilator will help me to breathe,

It’s just the inoculation that I need.

Here’s a fun fact I’ll share with you,

My bacteria like your bacteria too.

Staphylococcus epidermidis we’re covered in,

Are the only things getting between our skin.

Unlike many news organizations, we haven't put up a paywall - we want to keep our journalism as open as we can. Our sites are more popular than ever, but advertising revenues are falling - so you can see why we could use your help. Our independent journalism costs time, money and hard work to keep you informed, but we do it because we believe that it matters. If everybody who appreciates our reporting efforts were to help fund it for as little as $1, our future would be much more secure. Thanks in advance for your support!
