Woman Reports Being Raped at St. Thomas Resort

The V.I. Police Department is investigating a report of a woman being raped Sunday at a St. Thomas resort.

According to the police report, at about 11:30 p.m., Sunday, officers were dispatched to the Margaritaville Vacation Club in Smith Bay in reference to a rape.

Officers made contact with the female victim, whose name was not released in accordance with department policy. She told officers she had been at the resort’s Hilltop Bar where she met the suspect, whom she did not know. She said they had a drink together, then, as she was heading back to her room, the suspect led her behind the lobby and sexually assaulted her. He subsequently left the area.

The victim described her assailant as being a shirtless Hispanic male, 5 feet 6 inches in height, with his hair in blond braids, and with tattoos.

Police urged anyone with information about this incident to call 911, the Criminal Investigation Bureau at 340-774-2211 extension 5579, or the anonymous tip service, Crime Stoppers USVI, at 1-800-222-8477 (1-800-222-TIPS).
