The U.S. Department of the Interior’s Office of Insular Affairs’ Technical Assistance Program has awarded the Virgin Islands Fire Service $237,796 in grant funding. The funding will be used to purchase one Quick Response Vehicle (QRV) for each district. These vehicles are smaller than traditional fire trucks and allow for more efficient responses to medical emergencies, rescue calls, vehicle extrication and other emergency calls.

“The hard work of my staff and constant dialogue with our federal partners have once again borne fruits,” said Fire Service Director Daryl A. George. “It is an exciting time for the Fire Service as we prepare for the agency’s integration with Emergency Medical Services. The changing of the course in emergency response is our top priority, and this grant award will help us to do that.”

“We extend our thanks to the Bryan/Roach Administration and federal partners that supported our efforts to secure this funding,” said George.
