Street Level VI, a forum that supports local musicians, has announced a jingle competition open to all U.S. Virgin Island residents in which the winner will receive a $500 gift certificate as a prize.

Priscilla Lynn, founder of Street Level VI, said the forum had to get creative with its content when the venues that normally host live music had to close their doors due to the pandemic – twice now.

“Because the backbone of Street Level VI is as a one-stop-source for upcoming live music entertainment throughout the USVI, I wanted to keep the SLVI members engaged and the musicians and bands inspired. It can get pretty depressing when you lose both your gigs and your day job due to the pandemic,” Lynn said. “I wanted to craft something that would do that, plus help out my fellow local businesses by buying gift cards from them to assemble the winner’s prize.”

The winning band or musician, depending on which island they live on, will receive a combination of gift cards to various stores and activities.

“Depending on what island the winner is from will depend on where the gift cards are from. For instance, if a St. Thomas musician wins, it would include gift cards from the Music Shoppe II in Havensight Mall. Also, G-Clef Music Academy music lessons on St. Thomas or St. Croix, PrisCo Consulting which is a marketing and public relations service that offers virtual services no matter what island you live on, a sunset sailboat excursion, Sudi’s Caribbean Bar & Grille dinner gift card and Island Time Pizza lunch gift card,” Lynn said. While some things may be subject to change depending on island residency, the total amount of cost of goods and services the winner will receive will total $500.

The strict deadline for submission is noon on Sept. 30. Entrants must follow the submission guidelines. The jingle should be completed with lyrics and accompanied by music, be one to three minutes in length, relate to the Virgin Islands live music scene or Street Level VI and be family-friendly.

Judging will take place via Facebook, where Street Level VI group members can participate by voting for their favorite jingle. The winner will be announced in the middle of October after all votes are tallied.

The winning jingle will be showcased as the background theme on the Street Level VI Facebook banner, on the forum’s upcoming website and in various promotions and advertisements.

Interested musicians and bands must start by joining the Street Level VI group on Facebook, as only members can enter. Members can submit entries to Lynn by email at plynn333@gmail.com.
