*Update* Laura’s Strongest Winds Due at 10 a.m., Winds to Continue Thru 3 p.m.

Tropical Storm Laura is hitting the territory with sustained winds of 41 mph Saturday morning. Sustained tropical storm-force winds are expected to continue through 3 p.m.

At 11 a.m. Saturday the storm was located at 17.8 degrees North, 66.8 degrees West, or about 132 miles to the west of St. Croix, moving west at 21 mph. Tropical storm-force winds extend outward up to 205 miles, which means the entire U.S. Virgin Islands are affected.

Power outages have been reported for some feeders on St. Thomas and St. Croix.

The tropical storm has the potential to produce three to six inches of rain in some areas, including the Virgin Islands, through Sunday. A coastal flood warning, high surf warning, and flash flood watch are in effect through Sunday.
