On Thursday, the V.I. Police Department’s Economic Crime Unit arrested Jose Bermudez, age 49 of Bugby Hole, on an arrest warrant, charging him with obtaining money by false pretense, embezzlement by bailee, and grand larceny.

Bermudez is accused of scamming an 81-year-old male victim out of more than $7,000 in 2019. The money was given to Bermudez to purchase vehicles, which the victim never received.

Bail for Bermudez was set at $20,000. He was unable to post bail and he was turned over to the custody of the Bureau of Corrections pending his advice of rights hearing.
