STX: Man Shot in Ankle in Water Gut Area

A man was shot early Friday in the Water Gut area of Christiansted, receiving a wound to his ankle, the V.I. Police Department reported.

According to the VIPD, at about 4:50 a.m., a call came into 911 Emergency Call Center of multiple discharging of shots in Christiansted, vicinity of the Water Gut.

Officers responded and discovered a man who had been shot in the ankle. Police did not provide the identity of the victim, as per department policy.

The victim told officers he was walking in the area of Water Gut when someone called his name and started shooting at him.

The victim said he started running and later discovered he had been shot in the ankle. He was transported to the Gov. Juan F Luis Memorial Hospital by ambulance. for treatment.

The victim was not able to give police a description of suspects or vehicle.

The incident is under investigation by the Criminal Investigations Bureau. Police urged anyone with information about the crime to call the CIB at 340-778-2211, the 911 call center, or the anonymous tip service, Crime Stoppers USVI, at 1-800-222-8477 (TIPS.)
