William Edward George Dies at 74

William Edward George

William Edward George, better known as “Eddie” or “Sac,” died Sunday, Feb. 3, in Florida at the age of 74.

He was preceded in death by his mother, Chrystalia V. Smith; father, Jens H. George; sister, Ruby George; brothers: Earle George, Gustave Petersen, Wilford Petersen, Errol Petersen, Robert “Bruce” Petersen and Hjalmar Petersen; special great nephew, Alford “Shimbo” Rhymer Jr.; niece, Sherna Petersen; and nephews: Louis “Chapps” George Jr. and Earl Benjamin.

He is survived by his sisters: Ina Petersen and Sylvia George-Benjamin; brothers: Jens “Dee” George and Louis George; adopted daughter, Irma Pondt; special niece, Mildred Turbe; special great nieces: Amarah Rhymer, Aminah Rhymer and Aeshah Rhymer; and nieces: Sharon Turbe-DeSilvia, Ann Greaux, Karen Turbe, Patricia “Pat” Thomas, Ancelina “Darkie” King, Margarie Christian, Barbara Christian, Sheryl Clarke, Simone Esanason, Keisa George, Lois Samuel, Ann Benjamin, Lori Petersen, Sheryl Petersen, Janice Petersen, Wilma Petersen, Calmar Petersen, Gina George and Mickey George.

He is also survived by nephews: Alford Rhymer Sr., Robert Petersen, Kaseem George, William “Lee” George, Dean Blyden, Melvin Christian, Shamba Israel, Leon Petersen, Glen Petersen, Wilford Petersen Jr., Kwame George, Aubrey Benjamin and Richard Benjamin; other great nieces and great nephews too numerous to mention; as well as extended families of the late Edward George to include the Halls, Francis, Petersen, Smith, Hurton, James and Harvey families.

The first viewing will be held from 5-7 p.m. on Tuesday, March 12, at Turnbull’s Funeral Home and Crematory Services. The second viewing will take place from 8:30-10 a.m. on Wednesday, March 13, with service immediately following at Nisky Moravian Church. Interment will be at Eastern Cemetery.
