2019 Opens with V.I.’s First Homicide of the Year

A 34-year-old man became the U.S. Virgin Islands’ first homicide of the new year Tuesday morning in a shooting in the Mount Pleasant area.

According to the V.I. Police Department, the victim was identified by next of kin as Joseph O. Brow.

At about 5:46 a.m. Tuesday the 911 call center received multiple reports of shots being fired in the Mount Pleasant area of Frederiksted, in the vicinity of the Coconut Bar.

Arriving at the scene, officers learned that a gunshot victim, later identified as Brow, had been transported to the Juan F. Luis Hospital by private vehicle.

Brow had sustained multiple gunshot wounds to the body, and died of his injuries, according to police.

This incident is under investigation by the Criminal Investigations Bureau.

Detectives urged anyone with information leading to an arrest to call the CIB at 340-778-2211, the 911 call center, or the anonymous tip service, Crime Stoppers USVI, at 1-800-222-8477 (1-800-222-TIPS.)

Tips to Crime Stoppers that result in the resolution of a case can qualify the caller for an anonymous cash reward.
