Sex Video Purportedly of Prominent Crucian Spread on Social Media

Someone has published online a highly personal video, ostensibly of Licensing and Consumer Affairs Commissioner Devin Carrington, in a compromising situation with a woman and the video is being very widely shared on social media in the U.S. Virgin Islands, British Virgin Islands and beyond.

Carrington vehemently denies he is the male in the video, who resembles him.

โ€œThere is currently circulating on social media a video purporting to depict me, Commissioner Devin Carrington. I state unequivocally that the person depicted in the video is not me. The footage is fraudulent propaganda, designed to fool members of the public,” Carrington said in a statement.

“The act of posting this video that attempts to discredit me personally, the office I hold, and by extension the Government of the US Virgin Islands, is despicable and clearly done with malicious intent. It shows the depths people go to attempt to destroy another human being,” he continued.

The one-minute video involves three people, with one person filming and two engaged with one another.

The case is in some respects similar to an illegal hack of personal material from Delegate Stacey Plaskett’s phone. In that case, two staffers were indicted and Juan McCullum, a 36-year-old Washington D.C. resident, was sentenced to one year and 361 days in prison, with all but a year and a day suspended. He was also sentenced to serve two years on probation, with 100 hours of community service.

This situation is slightly different in that the video appears to take place in a government office, a third party shot the video, and the identity of the persons in the video are in dispute. Similar criminal charges may be in play.

The Source was offered the video Wednesday morning, but chose not to post it because, despite its prurient nature, it does not appear to depict an illegal act.
