Michael Leonard, 21, of Pennsylvania, was sentenced Thursday in District Court on St. Thomas to 36 months in prison for misprision of a felony. The sentence is consecutive to the sentence Leonard is already serving for his violation of supervision, announced U.S. Attorney Gretchen C.F. Shappert.

District Court Judge Curtis V. Gomez also sentenced Leonard to one year of supervised release and ordered him to pay a $100 special assessment and a $1,000 fine.

According to court documents, Leonard traveled with Reynaldo Lerburds and other individuals to a secluded area of St. John and was present when a shipment of cocaine was delivered. Leonard took steps to help conceal the cocaine and did not make any effort to notify law enforcement of the receipt of the cocaine or his actions in concealing the cocaine. Further, when Leonard was arrested on April 18 he failed to advise law enforcement of the receipt of the cocaine or the transport of the cocaine, court record shows.

The case was investigated by the Drug Enforcement Administration and prosecuted by Assistant U.S. Attorney Sigrid M. Tejo-Sprotte.
