Body Recovered from Inner Brass Island

Authorities recovered a partially decomposed body Sunday afternoon from Inner Brass Island, the V.I. Police Department reported.

According to police, at 3:30 p.m. Sunday a citizen reported encountering a dead body on a small island near Hull Bay Beach, St. Thomas.

Units from the Richard N. Callwood Command, the Virgin Islands Port Authority and the Criminal Investigation Bureau traveled to Inner Brass Island via boat. There they retrieved a decomposed body and transported it to the morgue at the Schneider Regional Medical Center.

The Identity, gender and cause of death are undetermined at this time, pending an autopsy.

This case is being investigated by the Major Crimes Unit. Police asked anyone with information about the incident to to contact the Police Department at 340-774-2211, the 911 call center, or the anonymous tip service, Crime Stoppers USVI, at 1-800-222-8477.
