The Virgin Islands Port Authorityโs (VIPA) Board of Governors has amended its marine tariff to address safety concerns regarding limited storage space, an increase in cargo activity and storage of flammable material at the Crown Bay Sandfill on St. Thomas.
The board amended โSection III J. Demurrage and Free Timeโ in the authorityโs marine tariff at its meeting on June 20. Free storage time at the Sandfill is now limited to 12 hours for petroleum-based products and hazardous materials, and 24 hours for general cargo.
The public is invited to a hearing at 6 p.m., July 12, to discuss the change to the tariff. The hearing will be held in the Crown Bay Center Conference Room at the Austin โBabeโ Monsanto Marine Terminal, 161-A Sub Base, St. Thomas.
The meeting will also be available via teleconference in VIPAโs conference room on the second floor of the Henry E. Rohlsen Airport Terminal on St. Croix.
