Man Killed in Hospital Ground Shooting

A man was shot Monday evening in the Hospital Ground area and died early Tuesday from his wound, the V.I. Police Department reported.

The victim’s name had not been released by police as of Tuesday evening, pending notification of next of kin.

According to police, at 10:48 p.m. Monday the 911 dispatcher received a call of multiple shots fired in the Hospital Ground area. Units from the Richard N. Callwood Command, along with units from the Criminal Investigations Bureau, traveled to Hospital Ground and discovered a black male on the ground in the area known as “Glass Battle Alley”.

The man appeared to have sustained a gunshot wound to his body. He was transported to Schneider Regional Medical Center via ambulance where he was taken into surgery.

He died of his injuries at 5:05 a.m. Tuesday, according to the police report.

The VIPD urged anyone with information regarding the shooting to contact the Investigation Bureau at 340-774-2211 ext., 5569, or 340-714-9830. The also can contact 911 or the anonymous tip service, Crime Stoppers USVI, at 1-800-222-8477.
