Man Shot to Death in Estate Bolongo

A man was found shot to death early Monday in the area of Estate Bolongo, the V.I. Police Department reported.

According to police, the victim was 41-year-old Niyen Jamil. It was the ninth homicide on St. Thomas since the beginning of the year, the 16th in the territory.

The 911 dispatch center received a call at 3:33 a.m. Monday reporting shots fired in the area of Bolongo Bay. Officers at the scene found a man with blood on his clothing and body sitting in the driver’s seat of a vehicle. The victim appeared to have suffered gunshot wounds to his body and was pronounced dead on the scene by medical personal.

The victim was identified as Jamil by a family member.

This case is presently under investigation by the Major Crime Unit. Police urged anyone with information bout the shooting call the Homicide Investigation Unit at 340-774-2211 or 340-714- 9830, or call 911 or the anonymous tip service, Crime Stoppers V.I., at 1-800-222-8477.
