Woman Injured on East End In ICU

A woman found Thursday by the side of the road on the east end of St. Thomas is still alive and in the Intensive Care Unit at the Schneider Regional Medical Center, a source close to the police told the Source, but there has been no confirmation by the VIPD about what happened, or confirmation that anything did.

The information came from a phone call by a person close to police, who requested anonimity.

Rumors ran rampant across the island Friday, beginning when an informant sent an email to the Source saying a friend has seen a woman’s body on the side of an east end road with a female police officer writing a report. Customers at the Western Auto store and other St. Thomas businesses also were talking about the apparent incident, and the speculation was wild.

However, repeated attempts all day Friday to reach officials did not elicit any response. Police spokesman Glen Dratte was unable to be reached for comment, and spokeswoman Sakeeda Freeman said Friday afternoon nothing had yet been reported but that she would look into the details.

Sources close to the police said Friday they believed the woman was dead. The Source was unable to verify anything, including where the woman’s body was found and what her condition was.
