Man Charged with Attempted Burglary

Laxton Herbert, age 52, was arrested Sunday and charged with attempted burglary, two days after he was injured while allegedly fleeing the scene of the crime, the V.I. Police said.

According to police, at about 9:30 p.m. Friday a man returned to his home and observed a black man prying open the sliding glass door on his porch. When the suspect saw the complainant, he jumped over the railing of the balcony of a three story building.

Herbert was taken to the hospital via ambulance and treated for a laceration to his left big toe, a laceration between his eyes, fractures to his back, fracture to the bottom of his neck, and a fractured eye socket.

He was discharged from the hospital Monday and arrested by the VIPD.

Herbert is charged with attempted burglary and destruction of property. Unable to post bail, he was turned over to the Bureau of Corrections pending his advice of rights hearing.
