The luxury superyacht Arctic P recently made headlines after it was seen anchored in the St. Thomas harbor and by, Tuesday afternoon, it was back out to sea after stopping for a little more than a week, according to local marine officials.
Owned by billionaire James Packer, a quick Google search on the boat offers shots of it anchored all over the world. According to recent news reports, the Arctic P was built in 1970 by the German Schichau Seebeckwerft and was originally used as an arctic salvage before it was converted. Measuring 287 feet, the boat includes a “super-steel” structure that internet reports say makes it strong enough to plow through ice.
“This isn’t the first time it’s visited the Virgin Islands,” according to Desmond Williams, assistant marine manager for West Indian Co. Ltd.. “They usually dock at Yacht Haven Grande, but this time, it was on our dock for a couple of days before heading out.”
“It’s a beautiful boat, once used as an ice-breaker, that was turned into a luxury yacht,” he said Tuesday.
The Arctic P was first in Malta before heading to St. Thomas on Dec. 3, according to ship location websites. The boat left the territory Tuesday and is now on its way to Saint Vincent.
