Summer Camps and Programs for St. Thomas and St. John Young People

Here is a list of summer camps and organized activities available for children or young people. Please send information on your camps and activities to offer parents a variety of choices.
The Department of Human Services (DHS), Office of Child Care & Regulatory Services announces the availability of limited funds to assist eligible parents in paying for summer camp fees for their children.
Applications will be available at the Department of Human Services – Subsidy, Resource & Referral Program (formerly – Block Grant) on St. Croix and St. Thomas beginning at 8 a.m. on Monday, June 6, until slots are filled and at the Department of Human Services – Multipurpose Center on St. John from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Tuesday, June 7.
Applicants interested in receiving summer camp assistance must be employed, attending school or a training program, and must meet the eligibility requirements. Children between the ages of 3 – 12 years as well as children with disabilities (special age provisions) are eligible to receive summer camp assistance.

Sports, Parks and Recreation Summer Soccer Camp
Dates: July 5 – August 12; 7:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. (on a weekly basis)
Ages: 5-15 years-old
Location: Lionel Roberts Stadium
Focus: The Department of Sports, Parks and Recreation in conjunction with Massey’s Soccer Academy will teach soccer skills for kids who are beginners through advanced. Coaches are from the USVI Soccer Association’s Grassroots Program and the Men’s National Team. There will be cultural guest speakers trips to the beach, and more. The Department of Education School Lunch program will provide lunches and snacks for free.

Agricultural Enrichment Summer Camp
Dates: June 27 – July 22
Ages: Youth Summer Camp
Location: Cooperative Extension Service Office Building, University of the Virgin Islands, St. Thomas campus
Special Services or Focus: The first objective of this four-week program is to increase knowledge and create awareness of career and work opportunities in the field of agricultural science. The second objective is to equip participants with job preparation skills through classroom presentations, practical exercises and field activities.
The Agricultural Enrichment Summer Camp represents a partnership between the V.I. Department of Human Services, the Department of Labor, the Virgin Islands University Center for Excellence in Developmental Disabilities (VIUCEDD), and the UVI Cooperative Extension Service (UVICES). The students will participate in numerous field trips and a wide variety of learning and fun-filled activities to stimulate their interest in the various fields of agricultural science. They will work directly with a diversity of agriculture professionals, including crop and livestock producers, landscapers, agricultural instructors, inspectors, enforcement officers and others.

G-Clef 2016 Summer Music Camp
Dates: 8 a.m. to 3:30 p.m., Mondays through Fridays, June 20 through Aug. 12 (eight weeks). (Parents can choose 2, 4, 6 or 8-week camp packages).
Ages: 3 to 14 years-old/all levels including beginners
Location: G-Clef Music Academy, second floor of LaBorde Plaza Building at Mandela Circle
Special Services or Focus: G-Clef Music Academy will have a Summer Music Camp that offers children learning, playing instruments and fun. Camp will include lunch and a snack when served by the school lunch program. Beginners and intermediate music students can learn piano, guitar, violin, drums, steel pan and more (up to eight instruments). The entire camp experience is eight weeks, but parents may choose a two, four or six-week option.
The camp day will start with musical instrument instruction in the morning. Children will go into different classrooms and learn to play and read music. Music theory will be introduced in a fun way — on the computer, through class activities and games. In the afternoon, children will team-up to show what they’ve learned. They will get a chance to play in several bands, sing in the choir or perform with G-Clef’s youth orchestra. Camp will include lunch and snack, when school lunch is served. A Grande Recital will conclude the summer fun.

STEAM Camp at All Saints Cathedral School with Academics Plus
Dates: June 27-August 5; 8 a.m. to 4 p.m.
Ages: Grades K-8
Location: All Saints Cathedral School
Special Services or Focus: STEAM Camp (Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts and Math) along with Academics Plus. This camp will offer a full range of STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts and Math) activities with Academics Plus. Fun, adventures, creativity and innovation! Camp hours are 8-4 with pick-up until 5:30 p.m. Early drop-offs and late pickups are available (7:30-8 a.m. and 5:30-6 p.m.)

Help Needy Students Summer Enrichment Program
Dates: July 1-29 — Camp Hours: 8 a.m. to 4 p.m.; pick up is until 5:30 p.m.
Ages: 11 and 12
Location: 1160 Estate Thomas
Focus: The program will offer: chess, checkers, mentoring, arts and craft, rap sessions, reading, counseling as needed, computer activity, etc. The objective of the program is to improve students’ social skills and problem solving skills

The Magens Bay Water Safety Training Center’s Learn to Swim Program
Dates: begins on Saturday, June 18; registration begins at 9 a.m. at
Location: Lifeguard stand No. 6, across from the bathhouse
Ages: 6 months through 106 years
9:30-10 a.m. — 6 months to 5 year-olds (*a parent must accompany child in water)
10-10:45 a.m. — 6 -15 year-olds advanced swimmers and all adults
10:45-11:30 a.m. — 6-15 year- olds for beginners
Special Services: Magens Bay Water Safety Training Center is looking for Waterfront Lifeguards, ages 15 and older, and Junior Lifeguards, ages 11-14.
Magens Bay Water Safety Training Center will conduct the Swim Pre-test at noon, Saturday, June 18.
Those who successfully complete the Waterfront Lifeguarding class will be hired to work at Magens Bay. Also, the top 10 students who complete the Junior Lifeguarding class will be hired to work at Magens Bay.

Our Lady of Mount Carmel Catholic Church Summer Camp and Youth Retreat (St. John)

Camp Fortuna Summer Camp 2016 at Calvary Baptist Church
Dates: July 4 through July 29; 9 a.m.
Ages: 6 — 14 years-old
Location: Camp Fortuna, 8220 Botany Bay
Program: This is the only sleep-over camp on St. Thomas. The summer will provide our youth with many choices for how to spend their vacation time. When considering summer opportunities with your child, we invite you to consider one such event as a major spiritual investment in your child’s future. That investment is Camp Fortuna.
Camp Fortuna is dedicated to improving lives through fun, excitement, fellowship and spiritual enrichment. We offer creatively structured times for scripture, swimming, recreation, drama, competition, worship, craft projects and much more. Campers can be dropped off at Calvary Baptist Church each Monday at 9 a.m.

We From Upstreet Inc. Summer Enrichment Program
Dates: Tuesday, July 5 through Friday Aug. 12, from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., Mondays through Friday
Ages: 6-17 years-old
Location: Winston Raymo Center
Program: We From Upstreet Inc., (WEFUS) (in collaboration with the Department of Sports, Parks and Recreation DSP&R) is pleased to announce the 2016 Summer Enrichment Program. We From Upstreet is the recipient of a grant from V.I. Housing Finance Authority Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) to conduct an afterschool and summer enrichment program.
Classes are open to all children, from elementary, middle, junior high and high school students. Math, English and computer literacy classes will be conducted from 8 a.m. to noon, Mondays through Wednesdays. Field trips, historical tours, cultural activities and mentoring lectures will be held on Thursdays, with DSP&R fun and beach-day on Fridays. Other activities will include: arts & crafts, special event days, fitness classes, recreational swimming, group games and weekly trips.
We encourage parents (whose child and/or children 14 years and over,) to come to Winston Raymo between noon and 2 pm to sign up and take advantage of a possible Free summer program. Space is limited.

We From Up Street encourage parents (whose child and/or children are 14 years and older) to come to Winston Raymo between noon and 2 p.m. to sign up and take advantage of a possible free summer program. Space is limited. The camp will be Free of Charge for those who qualify.
The first 10 youngsters to apply and qualify under the block grant will attend this program free of charge. Children under age 14 cannot register for the free application. The organization will pay for the DSP&R application fee.
Learning Leadership Through Theater Playwriting Camp, Removing the Blinders 2
Dates: July 25 through Aug. 19
Location: Pistarckle Theater
Focus: Learning Leadership Through Theater Playwriting Camp, Removing the Blinders 2 – Subliminal Messages (Blinders of the Mind) is a project written, created and directed by Empress PJ Crosby. This year, Pistarckle is removing the blinders within the subconscious because that is what the subliminal messages aim to reach. It then affects how people interact within the society once the blinders are removed. This camp is created with teenagers in mind, but the camp has had participants in their tweens as well who had a fantastic time.
