All of St. Thomas and John are suffering a total blackout while St. Croix is experiencing localized power outages Wednesday. On St. Thomas and St. John, power went out just after 4 a.m. Water and Power Authority personnel are working to restart the three generating units needed to provide enough capacity to bring all feeders back on line as quickly and as safely as possible. During restoration, priority will be given to the hospital, schools, business district and then residential areas, according to WAPA.
On St. Croix, bad weather and lightning strikes caused localized outages. The affected areas include Estates Two Williams and Whim, Little La Grange, Stoney Ground, Morning Start and Mount Washington. Crews are being dispatched to the areas to address the cause of the service interruptions, according to WAPA. These are the first major outages since a weeklong spate of outages in early May.
