Man Injured in Hospital Ground Shooting

A man was injured Friday evening by shots fired in the area of Hospital Ground, according to the V.I. Police Department.

At roughly 7:52 p.m. Friday, officers were dispatched by the 911 center to a report of shots fired near the Lima Grocery Store, located in Hospital Ground. Officers made contact with the victim, later identified as Asymo Phipps, 27 of Hospital Ground, who said he had been standing int the area of the store, when he heard shots fired.

Phipps immediately dropped to the ground, he told officers, and was unable to see who fired the shots or who shot him.

Phipps sustained gunshot wounds to his arm, thigh, and hip. Emergency medical technicians on the scene transported him to the Schneider Regional Medical Center, where was taken into surgery.

Forensic detectives processed and took photos of the crime scene, as well as the injuries Phipps sustained during this incident. The case is under investigation by the Criminal Investigation Bureau.
