July Open Kids’ Fishing Tournament Planned

(Credit - Dean Barnes)The July Open Kids’ Tournament, hosted by the Virgin Islands Game Fishing Club (VIGFC), will take place on Sunday. July 26, at the American Yacht Harbor (AYH) Marina in Red Hook, St. Thomas. Participation is open to all kids 12 years of age and under. Kids must be accompanied by a parent or guardian.
The first 200 kids will receive free entry, which includes a T-shirt, backpack and handline. All entrants will receive free pizza and a drink after fishing.
Registration will start at 8 a.m. at the VIGFC tables at AYH. Participants may fish from any dock, rock or stump in AYH. The official weigh-In by officials of DPNR’s Fish and Wildlife Division will take place at 11 a.m.
The two big prizes are fishing trips aboard Mixed Bag Sportfishing/Offshore Adventures and Captain Alvin Fishing Charters. Additional prizes, including gift certificates, cash and much more donated by community businesses such as Diamonds International, Budget Marine and East End Flower Shop, will be awarded in two age groups: Up to six years old and 7- to 12-years old.
