WAPA: Emergency Rotation Schedule in Place Thursday Night

The Virgin Islands Water and Power Authority announced a tentative electrical-service-interruption schedule for Thursday night for sections of St. Thomas feeders.

The outages will only be employed if the demand for power surpasses the generating capacity of the power plant, WAPA said in its announcement. The shortfall of generation capacity is a result of two generators undergoing repairs following weekend incidents which at one point black out all of the St. Thomas-St. John district.

Plant personnel completed repairs on Unit 23 Thursday and expected to test it this evening. Work continued Thursday to repair a breaker on Unit 15.

Thursday evening’s tentative rotation schedule is as follows:

6:30 p.m. – 8:30 p.m. – sections of feeder 7A

8:30 p.m. – 10:30 p.m. – sections of feeder 6A

10:30 p.m. – 12:30 a.m. – sections feeder 7C, 8B, 9C

12:30 a.m. – 2:30 a.m. – sections of feeder 7D

Rotating service interruptions will be performed on two hour intervals, and will be conducted in a manner to ensure service is retained by as many customers as possible, WAPA said.
