Carl Nelson Dies in Massachusetts

Carl Nelson, of Hyannis, Mass. and formerly of St. Thomas, died peacefully on Aug. 6. He was 80 years old.
He was born on March 24, 1934, in Nyack, N.Y., son of the late Charles and Margaret (Plath) Nelson, attending local schools, graduating in 1951.
A veteran of the Korean War, Nelson served in the U.S. Navy from 1951-1955 as a radar man second class. After his honorable discharge, he moved to Arizona and then to the Virgin Islands. While he was there, he served in hospitality as one of the only tour guides on St. Thomas. Prior to retirement, Nelson moved to Cape Cod and worked for Puritan Clothing and PBA Airlines, until his retirement in 1998.
An avid reader, Nelson enjoyed nature and enjoyed spending his time outdoors. He took pleasure in scuba diving and building model airplanes. Enthusiastic about sports, he was a loyal Yankees and Giants fan.
He attended the First Calvary Baptist Church.
Nelson loved his family and friends and treasured the time he spent with them.
He is survived by his children: Matthew Nelson of Chatham, Bruce Nelson of North Carolina and Scott Nelson of Florida. He is also survived by a niece.
A committal service will be held at 1:30 p.m. on Wednesday, Aug. 20, in The Massachusetts National Cemetery in Bourne, Mass.
Due to floral restrictions at the cemetery, memorial contributions may be made to the North Shore Animal League.
