2014 Official Election Events Calendar

Provided by the Virgin Islands Elections Office.

May 6:
First day for filing candidate nomination petitions, starting at noon.

May 7:

Deadline for political parties to submit to the Supervisor of Election a party emblem to be entered on the format of the ballot as it shall appear on the electronic voting machine.

May 13:

Last day on which nomination petitions and papers can be filed.

May 18:

Deadline for withdrawal of nominated candidates
Deadline for receipt, in writing, of shortened version of candidate names longer than 22 letters by the supervisor of elections.

May 23:

Casting of lots for position of names on the official primary ballot.

May 28:

Deadline for filing substitute nomination certificates and papers;

June 3:

First day for applications for primary election absentee ballots.

June 17:

All federal ballots to be mailed out to federal military and overseas personnel.

June 24:

Certification of nominees by the supervisor of elections.

July 2:

Last day for voter registration to vote in the primary. First day for examination of voting machines and instruction in use. Last day for changes of enrollment of political parties and cancelation of party enrollment. Last day for primary election absentee ballot applications.

July 19:

Deadline to appeal a denied registration application. Deadline to petition to cancel a voter’s registration for cause. Deadline for court appeals for a denied registration application. Deadline for receipt of removal notices and transfer of registration.

July 24:

Last day for examination of voting machines and voting machine instructions.

July 26:

Notice of primary election dates, locations and slates.

July 31:

Testing and certification of voting machines. (Open to public and media)

Aug. 2:

Primary Election (Saturday)

Aug. 12:

Casting of lots for general election.

Aug. 15:

Registrars commence registration.

Aug. 29:

If there is a tie at the primary election, the candidates with the tie vote will cast lots before the supervisor of elections.

Sept. 19:
All federal ballots to be mailed out to federal military and overseas personnel.

Oct. 5

Last day for registration. First day for examination of voting machines and instructions. Last day to investigate all questions relating to registration of voters. Deadline for receipt of removal and transfer of registration notices. Last day for change of enrollment of political party and cancellation of party enrollment. (This is a Sunday)

Oct. 12:

Official public notice of the general election.
Oct. 15:

Deadline to appeal a denied registration application. Deadline to petition to cancel a voter’s registration for cause.

Oct. 24:

Deadline for absentee ballot applications for the general election.

Oct. 25:

Last day to examine voting machines and for voting machine instructions. Testing and certification of voting machines. (Open to public) Deadline for court appeals for a denied registration application.

Nov. 4:

Election Day

Nov. 18:

Runoff Election Day, if no candidate for delegate to Congress has a majority.

Nov. 22:
Registrars re-commence voter registration.
