With a bark and a wag, the Animal Care Center of St. John’s annual Wagapalooza fundraising dog show will get under way Saturday with registration at 4 p.m. The show starts at 5 p.m., and the event runs until 9 at the V.I. National Park ballfield.
“It’s going to be interesting and fun with lots of things to do,” event co-chairman Sally Furlong said.
Admission for people is by donation. Dogs not participating in any of the nine show categories pay $5. Entry into the show will run $25 for each class entered.
The classes are the best of old timer, costume, adult handler, junior handler, trick, shelter dog, short agility, long agility and friend. The dogs that place first and second in each of those categories will compete at the end of the show for Waga King and Queen.
“And we’ll give out the Babe award for the most improved shelter dog,” Furlong said.
Those dogs not competing for the best in their class will participate in the Parade of Paws.
Additionally the school with the most participants will get a trophy, Furlong said.
Food, drink and T-shirts by Elaine Estern will be for sale, and St. John resident Michael Beason will perform. The Police Department will be on hand with its canine dog.
“And there will be lots of raffle prizes,” Furlong said.
