There were three games in the Bob Owens Slow Pitch Softball League on Tuesday at the D.C. Canegata ballpark. It was National Guard Hummers over the Anchor Dive Pirates, 23-8, in game one; the Colliani & Colliani Enforcers got by the Seaborne Stealers, 15-7; and the Benjay Lumberjacks beat the Enforcers, 11-4, in the late game.
Hummers 23, Pirates 8
The league leading Hummers brought their whipping sticks in game one and put a beat down on the Pirates, 23-8, in a contest halted by way of the 14-run mercy-rule after four innings. The Hummers finished with 23 runs on 20 hits and three errors, while the Pirates had eight runs on 12 hits and four errors.
Stanley Jones got the win on the hill for the Hummers and Edwin Sankitts got the loss. Top batters for the winners were Deshawn Brown (4 for 4 with two homeruns and three RBIs) and Ovidio Oquino (2 for 4 with a homerun and four RBIs). For the Pirates, Arthur Cannioner was 3 for 3 with two RBIs and Aldemar Santos was 3 for 3 with two RBIs.
Enforcers 15, Seaborne Stealers 7
The Colliani & Colliani Enforcers surprised perennial powerhouse Seaborne Stealers, 15-7, in game two with some timely hitting and a strong pitching performance from ace Steve Nisky. Sam Ramos got the loss for the Stealers.
It was the Enforcers with 15 runs on 16 hits and two errors, while the Stealers had seven runs on 10 hits and three errors. Top hitters for the Enforcers were Jeff Elvins (3 for 3 with two homeruns and three RBIs) and Brandon Rausch (2 for 3 with a homerun and two RBIs). For the Stealers, Kenny Milligan was 4 for 5 with two RBIs and Ronald Schjang was 3 for 3 with three RBIs.
Lumberjacks 11, Enforcers 4
The Enforcers appeared to have left their offense in game two because they came out flat in game three and were whipped by the Benjay Lumberjacks, 11-4. Ulric Benjamin scattered just eight hits in pitching the Jacks to victory. Nisky got the loss in this one.
The Lumberjacks finished with 11 runs on 15 hits and three errors, while the Enforcers had four runs on eight hits and four errors. Top batters for the Lumberjacks were Sean Tutein (4 for 4 with three RBIs) and Brandon Biggs (3 for 4 with two RBIs). For the Enforcers Cory Moore was 2 for 3 with a homerun and two RBIs and Dave Wentz was 1 for 2 with two RBIs.
