Dyhani HeyligerDyhani Heyliger was arrested Friday by detectives from the Major Crime and Intelligence Unit, who charged him with the Dec. 8 murder of Keith Dawson Jr.

Heyliger was arrested while attempting to board a plane to fly to the U.S. mainland, the V.I. Police Department said.

According to police, the 22-year-old Dawson was shot and killed just before 4 a.m. Dec. 8 in the area between the Metropolis Nightclub and Doctor’s Choice Pharmacy. At the time police said there was an argument between at least two men inside the nightclub and shots were fired outside the club soon after. Police also said witnesses reported that Dawson was not one of the shooters.

Heyliger was transported to the Intelligence Unit office and subsequently arrested.

He was charged with first-degree murder, first-degree assault, third-degree assault, reckless endangerment and possession of a dangerous weapon during the commission of a crime of violence. Heyliger was held without bail pending his advice of rights hearing.
